Finding underground water before you drill

Welcome to Northwest Well Finder

Find your well…

With well drilling costs ranging up into $20-$50k, it’s not something most folks can afford to experiment with all over their property.

While some areas have abundant groundwater resources, other locations are hit and miss.  If you check the well logs in your area and see a sizable percentage of dry or poor wells, you may be in one of those areas.

Most honest well drillers will tell you that the best place to drill a well is where it’s most convenient.  They have no idea whether there is water or not at that location.  And up until recently, the only option for “finding” groundwater was to hire a dowser.  Regardless of what you think of dowsing, it is not repeatable (i.e. different people can get very different results) and no one is able to explain how or why it works.  Even many drillers have found it to be no more accurate than picking a random spot to drill.

Thankfully, technology now exists that can locate and (to some extent) quantify groundwater on your property, so you aren’t drilling in the blind.

About Us

Nick & Lisa Meissner have been homesteading together for over 11 years. With 10 beautiful acres in north Idaho, they ran into a bit of a problem. The one spring they had on their property was shrinking, and as a result, they ended up losing their garden 3 years in a row from lack of excess water. They desperately needed a well. The problem was that they were surrounded with dry (or nearly dry) wells. Not wanting to leave $20k-$30k in drilling costs to chance, they started researching and discovered there was a scientific way of locating water underground. They aren’t the only ones who don’t want to waste tens of thousands of dollars on drilling wells.

Drillers who Guarantee results

A well drilled in the Pacific Northwest will almost always have at least a bit of water. But it could be too little to be usable or too deep to be feasible.  Thanks to Northwest Well Finder, you can go into the drilling process with an idea of what to expect beforehand.
